Less than 30 of these were made by 21st Century Toys as prizes for the "4 for Victory" competition. Three were kept in the 21st Century Toys collection, the remainder were distributed to Aces. To participate you had qualify as an Ace by shooting down (purchasing) four Fw-190 1:18 planes and mail in the UPC codes and receipts to 21st Century Toys. Though each person that sent in the required items won a Tender Terror, the actual contest prize was one of several nose art panels. Some participants were "Double Aces" in that they submitted enough planes to win two prizes. There were three double aces. Double Aces also won nose art panels that were given away. Each Tender Terror came with letter of authenticity addressed to the original Ace, signed by the 21st Century Toys Fan Club President and 21st Century Toys staff. They were shipped on Jan 19, 2007.
Participants received the following e-mail acknowledging their status:
"Congratulations Ace!
21st Century Toys, Inc. and the AREA-21 Fan Club would like to be the first
to thank you for your bravery and service. By completing the "4 for Victory
Air War Promotion" you are part of an elite group. Be proud of your
accomplishment and take your place in the 'Winners Circle of Aces!' As you
may already be aware, because of your commitment you will be awarded a very
special prize. A VERY limited edition of our P-51D Mustang, "Tender Terror"
airplane awaits. This promotion is destined to be one for the history books
as one of the most aggressive, and exclusive prize offerings ever conceived
and executed by any toy company.
Because we want the very best for our Aces, we are asking for your patience
as we finish the final revisions and paint masks for our new P-51D Mustang
mold. The progress is moving on your new P-51 and you can expect delivery of
this amazing new aircraft sometime early next year."
